Preparing Your Pool for Summer in Cyprus: A Complete Checklist

Getting your Paphos pool summer-ready? Follow this expert checklist from Pool Pro to ensure a safe, crystal-clear pool before the season begins.

When to Start Your Pool Opening in Cyprus

In Paphos, the swim season typically kicks off in April–May. Smart pool owners start preparing in March, before the rush. Here's your complete checklist:

The Pool Opening Checklist

1. Remove and Clean the Cover

If you used a winter cover, remove it carefully to avoid debris falling into the pool. Clean and dry it before storing.

2. Check the Water Level

Top up if needed. Winter rain may have diluted your chemicals.

3. Inspect All Equipment

  • Pump: Check for leaks, unusual noises, and that it primes correctly
  • Filter: Is it time for a sand/glass media change? Media should be replaced every 3–5 years
  • Chlorinator: Clean the cell if you have a salt system
  • Lights: Check all underwater lights work
  • Heating: Test the heat pump before the season (booking for repairs fills up fast)

4. Test and Balance the Water

After winter, your water chemistry will be off. Test and adjust:

  • pH: 7.2–7.6
  • Total Alkalinity: 80–120 ppm
  • Chlorine: 1–3 ppm
  • Calcium Hardness: 200–400 ppm (important in Cyprus's hard water)

5. Shock the Pool

A seasonal shock treatment kills any lingering bacteria and algae spores.

6. Clean Thoroughly

Brush all surfaces, vacuum the floor, and empty all baskets.

7. Book Your First Service Visit
