Losing water daily from your pool? Learn how to tell the difference between evaporation and a real leak — and what Pool Pro's leak detection process involves in Paphos.
Is My Pool Actually Leaking?
In Paphos, during July and August, pools can lose 3–5cm of water per week through evaporation alone. So how do you know if you have a genuine leak?
The Bucket Test
Fill a bucket with pool water and place it on the pool steps. Mark the water level inside and outside the bucket. Check after 24 hours:
- If both levels drop equally — it's evaporation
- If the pool drops more than the bucket — you have a leak
Common Leak Locations
1. Skimmer Seal
The most common leak point. The seal between the skimmer body and the pool shell cracks over time, especially with Cyprus's temperature fluctuations.
2. Return Fittings
Fittings can work loose or their O-rings degrade. A common cause is aggressive backwashing pressure.
3. Main Drain
Leaks here are harder to detect and usually require a professional diver inspection.
4. Underground Pipework
The most serious and expensive. Pipes under the pool deck can crack due to ground movement or age.
5. Shell Cracks
Hairline cracks in the shell or plaster can allow significant water loss over time.
