Magnesium pools are gaining popularity in Cyprus for their health benefits and gentle water. Learn everything about magnesium pool systems for Paphos properties.

What is a Magnesium Pool?

A magnesium pool system uses a blend of magnesium chloride and potassium chloride in place of standard sodium chloride in a salt chlorinator. The electrolysis process still generates chlorine for sanitisation, but the water also contains therapeutic levels of magnesium.

Health Benefits of Magnesium Pool Water

Skin Benefits

Magnesium is known to improve skin hydration and texture. Many users report softer, less irritated skin after swimming in magnesium water — a significant benefit in Cyprus's sun-drenched environment.

Muscle Recovery

Magnesium is absorbed through the skin and plays a role in muscle relaxation. Athletes and active swimmers particularly notice benefits after intensive sessions.

Better Sleep

Anecdotal reports from magnesium pool users frequently mention improved sleep quality — consistent with the known role of magnesium in nervous system regulation.

Gentler on Eyes and Skin

Magnesium water is less irritating than sodium salt or traditional chlorine pools, making it particularly popular for families with children or sensitive skin.

How a Magnesium System Works

Most standard salt chlorinators can operate with magnesium salts. The key differences:

Use Mg:K mineral salts instead of standard NaCl
Run at slightly lower concentration (2,500–3,500 ppm vs 4,000+ for sodium salt)
pH management is slightly different — magnesium water tends to sit at a better natural pH

Costs in Cyprus (2024)

Conversion from standard chlorine: €50–80 (just the salt change, if you have a compatible salt system)
New magnesium system installation: €600–1,200 installed
Running cost: Similar to a salt system — magnesium salts cost slightly more but last as long
